About Doujac

A Summary

Doug and I are slaves to Dachshunds. However, my love affair with this delightful breed began in the early 60's. Whilst walking my sister's Alsations I came across a chap with two mini smooths. He was putting them through their paces. The routine was what we would call today "Heelwork to Music". I was fascinated and thus began my interest in the Dachshund. Marriage and then a family meant that I did not get to own a Dachshund until the early 70's. Hedda was a Standard Longhaired from the Sonderwald kennels. A few more Standards followed. Living in Cornwall and being unable to drive I did not show much during this period. I returned to Nottingham in 1985 where I met Doug and we married in 1986. I still had an elderly Standard Long at that time but Tyrone passed away in 1993. It was then that I decided to purchase a Miniature Long Haired with a view to taking up showing once again. We purchased "Daisy" a brindle from the Cliffmere Kennels and the rest, as they say, is history.

Over the last 16 years we have enjoyed many successes in the ring. We have achieved, JW's. RCC's CC's BIS, RBIS, BPIS and many many first placings at Championship level. We are not prolific breeders believing in quality rather than quantity.

We have also added a Miniature Smooth Haired to our family - Donnadoon Elouise at Doujac (Penny). We still show Penny on occasions and her latest outing to Crufts 2009 produced a VHC place from a Limit class of 21. Penny has also achieved a RCC after many 1st placings at Championship Shows.

Here at Glebe Cottage we are surrounded by fields and our Dachshunds are free to run all day. We have about 1/3rd of an acre which is securely fenced.

They also enjoy walks on our local beach which is secluded and dogs are allowed all year round. We never confine our Dachshunds. They all (14 at the moment) live together, eat together and play together without a cross word! Evenings will find Doug and I confined to an armchair each whilst the Dachshunds sprawl on the sofa and in front of the fire.

I was privileged to be asked to judge Dachshunds and have been doing so now for over 12 years.

Dachshunds are our passion and we hope to continue showing and breeding the occasional litter for many years to come.

We hope you enjoy your visit to the Doujac website and we are always available to "chat dachs".
